The post office at Madang opened March 25, 1946, with the use of Relief date stamp N° 4.

On the backside of this letter we notice a Military transit stamp "Air Force Post Office Nr. 238". This post office for military personnel remained open until April 2.
The date stamp had been in use since July 17, 1946.
Several provisional registration labels have been reported.
